Sustainable Furniture for a Sustainable Future

At Moss, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From the materials we carefully select to the work-life balance we prioritise, every decision is made with the planet and our community in mind. We consciously craft beautiful, high-quality pieces that not only elevate spaces but also respect our environment. Our commitment to sustainability means creating products that tread lightly, leaving a positive impact on both your surroundings and our future.

Getting Down to Earth

Moss recognises there’s been an imbalance in our industry's priorities for too long. Profits have taken precedence over the well-being of people and communities, and the unrelenting use of virgin materials is having a devastating impact on the natural environment where we live and abroad. The irony of this short-sighted approach isn’t lost on us. Moss Furniture is committed to turning the tables and is grateful for customers and business partners who vibe with this vision. We’re dedicated to continuous improvement in this space, and we're proud to be making a difference with some amazing initiatives.

Moss X Stripe Climate

Moss actively seeks out partnerships with suppliers who share our dedication to sustainability. By collaborating with like-minded businesses, we strengthen our collective impact and foster a more sustainable industry as a whole. Partnering with Stripe is one way we’ve committed to bettering the environment. As a Stripe Climate Member we contribute 1% of each purchase to help emerging permanent carbon removal technology scale up and ultimately remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Raw and processed materials, their origins and how they’re created, are fundamental factors when considering our environmental impact. From production to packaging we choose materials that are best for the earth, and we celebrate the uniqueness that comes from our reused elements like recycled glasses and fabrics.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Natural Stone Products

Created by Nature, with minimal human intervention, the natural stone is one of the earliest green building materials available. Its formation, orchestrated by the forces of nature over time, eliminates the need for additional resources in the creation/production phase. By incorporating natural stone into our designs, we not only celebrate the beauty of nature but also uphold our dedication to sustainable practices.

Jade Glass made from 100% Recycled Glass Waste

An eye-catching and impactful material we love here at Moss, and it's born out of discarded coloured glass waste. When we carefully apply the appropriate temperature the glass is refused and reformed into transparent and semitransparent stone surfaces. These intricate and unique materials are then used for our coffee tables and side tables. Utilising recycled glass, sourced from waste items like jars and beer bottles, makes it an obvious choice. It remains inorganic, enduring without ageing, and holds the potential for future recycling. With a distinctive translucent optical quality, it reveals a crystal-like brilliance like no other.

FSC Certified Timber Products

Our Oak and Ashwood veneers, as well as solid Ashwood, are sourced from responsibly managed forests. The International Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that our timber materials adhere to rigorous environmental and social standards, promoting responsible forest management practices. By incorporating these certified timbers into our products, we aim to contribute to the conservation of forests, biodiversity, and the overall health of our planet. Not only do these materials meet high sustainability standards, but they also bring a natural and timeless beauty to our products.

By consciously choosing these materials, we reduce the demand for virgin resources and minimise waste. Moreover, our dedication to sustainability extends to the longevity of our products. Crafted with quality workmanship and timeless designs, each piece is intended to have a longer lifespan. We understand that low-quality items often end up in landfills, and that's precisely why our products adhere to a higher standard, designed to endure in your home for years to come.

Not only do we focus on the materials used, but we also consider the end-of-life cycle for our products. We select materials that are either biodegradable or can be easily recycled or reused, reducing our contribution to landfill. Our commitment extends beyond the products themselves - we also carefully package and ship our items using sustainable materials, minimising our carbon footprint.

Accountability and transparency are key for us. When it comes to our processes, products and operations we’re committed to regularly communicating our sustainability initiatives, successes, progress and pitfalls with our community.

We’re always on the lookout for ways to be lighter on our feet carbon footprint-wise. So if you're a fellow designer, collaborator, eco-warrior or just in our neck of the woods, hit us up through the 'Contact Us' form. We're always keen to team up and hear what you’re up to.

Much Love, Moss xx
